    About the class: Agriscience is an introductory laboratory science course that prepares students for biology, subsequent science and agriculture courses, and postsecondary study. This course helps students understand the important role that agricultural science and technology plays in the twenty-first century. In addition, it serves as the first course for all programs of study in the Agriculture, Food, & Natural Resources cluster. Upon completion of this course, proficient students will be prepared for success in more advanced agriculture and science coursework

     

    Prerequisite: None (This is a prerequisite class for any other offered agricultural science classes (i.e. plant science and hydroculture, small animal science, large animal science, veterinary medical applications, etc.).  

     

    Labs:

    This class will contain hands on laboratory excercises.  There will be the possibility of getting clothing dirty, blood, bad odors, and other elements that are associated with these labs.  These labs are for student hands on experiences. Please contact Mrs. Akin at least 1 class period prior to laboratory if you have any questions or concerns about the laboratory. Proper safety procedures will be taught. You are expected to follow the proper lab safety procedures or you will not be allowed to participate in lab activities.

      • Created on first day of class
    • Daily Journal (MUST be obtained and present in class on Friday, August 9th ( For a Quiz Grade)
      • Journal entries will be a weekly quiz grade
    • 3 ring binder/Notebook (MUST be obtained and present in class on Friday, August 9th  (For a Quiz Grade)
      • MUST have a place to insert loose leaf paper (Notes/other resources)
      • Bring to class everyday. We will be taking notes daily.
      • Paper, Pen, Pencil

     

    Class Expectations:

    • Come to class prepared and willing to learn. We will be working independently and group work. Have a positive attitude and open approach to new class topics and ideas. Treat classmates the way you wish to be treated. Finally, have respect for all others and property.

    Journal Requirements:

    • Journals will be written in daily and left in assigned basket. This journal should NOT leave class
    • You have the first 5 minutes of class to complete your journal entry *When I am done taking attendance I am moving on*
    • Entries should have a paragraph style answer that includes:
      • The posed question
      • Minimum of 3 complete sentences.
      • Grammatically correct
      • Answers the assigned question
      • Written in first person
    • If a journal entry is missed, you have 5 days to complete the journal entry and turn in.

    About the class: Large Animal Science is an applied course in veterinary and animal science for students interested in learning more about becoming a veterinarian, vet tech, vet assistant, or pursuing a variety of scientific, health, or agricultural professions.  This course covers anatomy and physiological systems of different groups of large animals, as well as careers, leadership, and history of the industry. Upon completion of this course, proficient students will be prepared for success in the level-four Veterinary Science course and further postsecondary training.

     

    Prerequisite: This is the third course in the Veterinary and Animal Sciences program of study.  Prerequisite classes include AgriScience and Small Animal Science.
