• English 10 is an EOC class (End-of-Course test) which focuses on the Common Core objectives through reading, writing, and grammar. Students are expected to keep all their work current, and if absent, to check either Google Classroom (link below) or the Make-up Work Notebook in the room. Make-up work is the student’s responsibility, and must be completed within three days, usually during Skinny Block.

    Honors English 10 is an EOC class which focuses on all the skills a student might need for college, including, reading, annotating, writing, note-taking, memorization, analysis, and synthesis. To do well in Honors English 10 a student must be willing to work hard, to complete all assignments on time, and to participate.

    Visual Art has two components. For the first four weeks, the focus is on the vocabulary of art, with tests every day until the material is covered. After that, Visual Art becomes a drawing class. Students are taught to shade, use variegated line, and sight-draw. When funds allow, they also do watercolor and colored pencil. A sketch is due every week on Wednesday. Most students are surprised at the quality of the work they end up producing.

    Genres of Literature (formerly World Literature) is a College-Prep class which Mrs. Anchors created after State testing took away the time to do her favorite units, including Titanic, Dreams and Fantasies, Broadway musicals, and many others. The class is very easy for any student who took Honors English 10, and more challenging for those students who did not. One of the focuses is college-level note taking. Another is writing. But most of all, the focus is on experiencing the joy of learning through interesting units.
